organizational director
Sunset Beach Christian Church, O'ahu · 2023–Present
In 2023, I was halfway through my Master's degree when my pastor asked if I would consider becoming the "cleaning lady" at our church. The role was unpaid and part time, but came with a one bedroom apartment. Against all better judgement, I said yes. That June I moved from my shared house to the church campus, nestled on the North Shore, and began cleaning toilets, guest rooms, setting up for services, and events, while also working a retail job, and commuting one hour each way to the lab several days a week. It was a crazy season.
Before long, my role expanded to include managing the church's guest-stay ministry, coordinating services, and events. I began helping to organize the church's calendar, integrating the various ministries, and implementing processes to streamline our systems, like virtual calendars and meeting agendas.
As the scope of my job expanded, I took on more than I could manage alone, so I recruited interns to help with the day-to-day tasks while I continued working behind the scenes. I began managing the website and most communication needs for the church. I started a Sunday Morning Nursery, programmed our Young Adults Ministry, served the middle school girls at Youth Group, and started writing a regular newsletter.
The internship expanded to become an integral program within our minsitry, and now I don't know what we would do without them. In two years, I've had the privilege of leading ten women through this program, providing them with life-on-life discipleship, opportunities to explore and use their gifts, and preparation for their future, wherever God calls them next.
In 2024, I successfully defended my thesis and graduated with my Master's in Ocean Engineering. At this time, I was ready to join the church as a full-time staff member. At the end of 2025, I led the efforts to transition to two services on Sunday mornings, and am working on building out our serve-teams in both of these settings. We're still figuring out our connection processes, and this summer I've been working on reinforcing our Small Group ministry model. Another exciting project I'm working on is building a disciple-making toolkit app to help our congregation grow in their personal walks with the Lord and make more disciples.
I have no formal training in organizational management, volunteer coordination, ministry, systems, events, or operations, which makes it really easy for me to give God the glory for all He has done through me and our church. 2 Corinthians 12:9 has been my anthem over the past three years“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me".
I am so grateful I get to serve God and His people as my full-time job. All glory to Him!
